25th of April commemorates James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkin’s discovery of DNA’s double helix back in 1953 and the publication of their work in Nature journal. This month also coincides with another big milestone in the history of biology, the completion of the 13-year-long Human Genome Project in 2003. To acknowledge this momentous and remarkable day of the year, the Community of Biotechnology presents one of the most exhilarating events for biotech and biosciences enthusiasts, the “DNA Fest 2021,” which will take place on 24th and 25th April and aims to bring people from all over the world to participate in various exciting competitions on DNA along with providing them with the opportunity to hear from the very foundation builders of Biosciences and Molecular Biology about their work and research that has led to the existing advancements in the field of life sciences.
DNA Day commemorates the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003 and the discovery of the double helix of DNA in 1953. Since then, several research discoveries focused on DNA have been made. This competition allows participants to share their profound knowledge of DNA-based discoveries and exploration with others through 3MT speech.
A parody is now commonly described as an artistic work intended to mimic, comment on, or make fun of its subject by satiric or humorous imitation. This competition allows participants to create a parody of anything DNA-related using their artistic creativity and making it as witty as possible. Through a satirical video submission, participants may express the thoughts of the scientists, or the story of their discovery, or unexpressed words of DNA-RNA, or any straight to DNA (however they see suitable) through acting.

A Fulbright Scholar, professor and founding director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (IBGE), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Dr. Md. Tofazzal Islam is an internationally acclaimed microbial chemical ecologist who has made multitude of contributions to his field. His work onphytopathogenic oomycete zoospores and their molecular interaction with plants have been published in over 175 peer-reviewed journals.

Ada E. Yonath is an Israeli crystallographer best known for her pioneering work on the structure of the ribosome. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009, along with crystallographers Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Thomas A. Steitz.

Dr. Jessica Polka serves as the Executive Director of ASAPBIO, a researcher-driven nonprofit organization working to promote innovation and transparency in life sciences publishing in areas such as preprinting and open peer review. Prior to this, she performed her postdoctoral research in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School following a Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Cell Biology from UCSF.
