CRISPR Fest 2020

CRISPR, the gene-editing tool, is inciting a modern-day revolution in science and technology. Upon its accidental discovery by Yoshizumi Ishino and his colleagues in 1987, it has opened new doors in research and therapeutic applications.

To celebrate the discovery of this cutting-edge tool of modern biotechnology, the Community of Biotechnology is organizing “CRISPR Fest 2020” with six virtual events, 1 Panel Discussion, and a special CRISPR Talk session on 23-24th October 2020.

Programs

Research Idea Presentation

A team of 3 members can participate. The research idea should be based on the use of CRISPR, have originality, and must not be taken from any published article.

Explaining CRISPR in 2 Minutes

Participants have to submit a written abstract about CRISPR within 200 words. The abstract must be in own words. It can be either in a word file or PDF and should be submitted through the registration form.

CRISPR Meme

Any hilarious meme based on CRISPR can be submitted. The memes have to be made by participants themselves (can also be hand-drawn).

Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka

Currently, a professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka, and a visiting researcher at the University of Texas, Austin, Professor Seraj has been involved with the development of locally and internationally funded plant biotechnology projects since 1991 and has made numerous significant contributions to the field. She is the co-principal investigator of the Generation Challenge Program (GCP) that uses molecular biology to enhance agricultural output.

His research program continues to focus on developing genome editing by homologous recombination as a curative therapy for children with genetic diseases but also has interests in the clonal dynamics of heterogeneous populations and the use of genome editing to better understand diseases that affect children including infant leukemias and genetic diseases that affect the muscle. Clinically, Dr. Porteus attends the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital where he takes care of pediatric patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
