With the still ongoing pandemic, the use of antimicrobials has skyrocketed; now more than ever raising the awareness of antimicrobial resistance is vital. For the upcoming antibiotic awareness week, the Community of Biotechnology will be hosting the "AMR Fest 2021" supported by IEDCR (Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control & Research), sponsored by American Society for Microbiology (ASM). The event will consist of a quiz competition, article writing, and an art competition.

Dr.Stephen Baker is a Director of Research for Global Health in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Professor at the University of Oxford. Dr. Baker's research focuses on studying the mechanisms and epidemiological influences of antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negative bacteria. His group has used various genomic and laboratory techniques to understand how antimicrobial resistant bacterial emerge and spread, and how best they can be combated through new antimicrobial agents and vaccines. He has published over 350 scientific articles and is a recognized name in global health with a portfolio of work ranging from typhoid fever and other enteric diseases to hospital acquired infections and zoonoses.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control & Research (IEDCR) and National Influenza Centre (NIC)
Professor Dr. Tahmina Shirin is the Director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control & Research (IEDCR) and the National Influenza Centre (NIC) in Bangladesh. Professor Shirin is involved in the Hub’s research on human health in Bangladesh. As being the Chair of the Coordination Committee for One Health Secretariat in Bangladesh, she is responsible for coordinating the Hub’s One Health activities among government stakeholders. She leads on policy guidance and decision making for long-term sustainability and impact of the Hub. Professor Shirin’s experience in the field of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and immunology focuses on innate immune responses.

Global Burden of Antimicrobial Resistance, Nuffield Departement of Medicine, University of Oxford
Dr. Catrin Moore is the research group leader of Oxford GBD (Global Burden of Disease) an Oxford-based group, which collaborates with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. Dr. Moore's research focuses mostly on clinical microbiology, notably in Southeast Asia, where she spent six years managing diagnostic and research laboratories at Mahosot Hospital in Vientiane, Lao PDR, and the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. While at the Epidemic Diseases Research Group in Oxford, she collaborated with a number of research groups across Africa (ERGO). She is also a panelist and chair assessing Athena SWAN applications for Advance HE (formerly ECU) We're thrilled to welcome her as a speaker at "AMR FEST 2021," where she'll be able to share her knowledge and experience with our audience.

Fleming Fund Country Grant (Bangladesh) and DAI Global, LLC
Dr. Nitish Debnath is the Team Leader of the Fleming Fund Project (Bangladesh). He is also the core member of the Board of Directors for the Council on International Veterinary Medical Education for Asia; president of Bangladesh Veterinary Council; president of the professional organization Agriculturist (Krishibid) Institution Bangladesh; and an Associate Fellow of Chatham House Global Health. Dr. Debnath pioneered the One Health movement in Bangladesh in 2007 jointly with veterinarians, physicians, and environmental scientists, and launched a new professional organization called One Health Bangladesh. He has been chairing One Health Bangladesh since its foundation and has led 10 One Health conferences. He has been involved with the U.K. Government-funded BALZAC project and subsequently got involved with One Health Poultry Hub project. He joined the FAO Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases as the Senior Technical Advisor for One Health and Veterinary Education. In 2021 ,Dr. Debnath was invited to become one of 26 global experts selected to serve on the One Health High Level Expert Panel convened to advise leading global health agencies on the development of a plan to avert disease outbreaks with the potential to trigger pandemics.
